SF BAY AREA CHAPTER
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We acknowledge that we live, work, and skateboard on Huchiun, the traditional and unceded land of the first people of Oakland, the Lisjan and Muwekma Ohlone People and many other Indigenous communities who call the San Francisco Bay Area home. We honor with gratitude the land itself and the people past, present, and future who have sustained relationships with it for thousands of years. In spite of federal, state, and local policies of genocide, Indigenous communities continue to exist, thrive and care for lands across the Bay Area. This acknowledgement does not take the place of authentic relationships with Indigenous communities but serves as a first step in honoring the land we occupy, acting in solidarity with Native communities, and supporting Indigenous sovereignty and rematriation. One way we suggest taking action in honor of Ohlone peoples is to give shuumi–pay a voluntary land tax to the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust. We encourage our community to self educate, share out and donate to Indigenous led efforts; including Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, Friendship House SF, American Indian Child Resource Center, Turtle Island Skateboard Project. Also, visit this link to learn what Native land you occupy.
