2018-2019 ATS 12&UNDER PARENT INFORMATIONAL

Thank you for joining us for Skate Like a Girl 12&Under Lessons at All Together Skatepark! This document should answer many of your questions! If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact us at  seattle@skatelikeagirl.com.

BASICS:

12&Under Lessons take place every Sunday from September through May. There are two clinics each day, one from 12PM to 1PM, and another from 1PM to 2PM. You can register for one or both clinics.

ARRIVAL:
Check-in and registration will open 15 minutes before each clinic starts. Please plan to arrive during this time so lessons can begin on time. Our goal is to start by 10 after the hour at the latest.

CHECKING IN:
Check in can be very hectic, as we typically get between 40-60 kids through 2 back to back lessons within 2 hours. In order to get started on time, we highly recommend having only parents stand in line for check in, while youth put their pads on with help from our staff and volunteers.

If pre-registered
  • Sign in at front desk with our registrar - they take attendance!
  • Proceed to Skate Like a Girl Lead Staff who will get your child into a lesson group

If participating in a drop-in session
  • Sign in at front desk with our registrar - they take attendance!
  • Fill out ATS waiver (if you’re new to ATS!)
  • Proceed to ATS Staff who will charge you ($25/class/child)
  • Proceed to Skate Like a Girl Lead Staff who will get your child into a lesson group

Often there is a birthday or other rental until Noon, and we appreciate you respecting these groups by waiting to use the skate park until Noon. Starting at Noon, there will be about 10 minutes for pad-up & free skate, followed by "Circle Time" at 10 after the hour.

PRONOUNS:
At Skate Like a Girl we are committed to creating spaces where youth of all genders feel welcome. Every day we skate with little boys with long hair, girls who hate pink, and many more kiddos in between and beyond. In order to not misgender our youth, we ask youth to share their pronouns (she/her, they/them, he/him, etc.) with the group. That way if we are referring to a skater "She did an awesome job" or "They took a big risk!" we're referring to everyone accurately. We make sure to let kids know what pronouns are and if they don't wish to share their pronouns, and opt to use just their name instead, that's totally cool.

CODE OF CONDUCT:
  • Follow all directions given by staff and volunteers
  • Respect fellow participants, ensuring that all participants feel welcome and safe. Hurtful and offensive language is not acceptable.
  • Wear helmet at all times while skateboarding during lesson hours
  • Respectfully utilize any borrowed skate gear, ensuring it is returned in good condition
  • Communicate appropriately by not using foul language, gestures, or unfriendly tones of voice towards staff or participants
  • Do not cause deliberate harm of other participants, including pushing, kicking, hitting, or fighting
  • Do not leave the group you are assigned, and communicate any needs to your counselors, such as water, bathroom, snack, etc.

If participants cannot follow these rules, they will be issued a warning and parents will be notified. If behaviors still do not change after a warning, participant may expelled from the program.

WHAT TO BRING:
  • Skateboard & Helmet - We highly recommend the use of elbow, knee & wrist pads, too! We can provide loaner gear to those in need. Gear is available on a first-come, first-serve basis
  • Water Bottle

SKATEBOARDING GEAR 101:
Skate Like A Girl offers free rental equipment for any youth participating in our programs. If your camper does bring their own gear, we have a few tips and suggestions:
  • Although they seem like a good deal, mass-produced skateboards from department stores will make it harder for your child to roll, gain speed, and turn. Further, they add to the risk of falls due to an inability to properly steer or roll and can be very dangerous. We HIGHLY recommend investing in a higher quality board, check out the pro shop at All Together Skate Park as they will have proper equipment and staff to help you out.
  • Proper pads are very important. Good sets will cover the elbows and knees completely, and have large plastic plates to allow sliding on concrete without skin contact. The straps should fit snuggly around knees and elbows, without easily falling off or constricting movement. Helmets should fit snuggly on the head, without causing headache (too tight) or flopping around (too loose).

CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OLD:
There is no minimum age for 12 & Under Lessons. We generally recommend that participants be at least 5 years old before signing up. If your child is less than 5, they are welcome to participate, however, we expect that parents be present to accompany them if they are not able to take a group lesson. This may mean, holding their hand, helping them pay attention, etc. If your child would like an individual lesson, this service is offered by All Together Skate Park. More info can be found here.

INJURY POLICY:
Participants who are injured during Skate Like a Girl program to the point that they can no longer participate, such as a sprain or broken bone, will be entitled to a full cash refund or program credit. Please contact us at seattle@skatelikeagirl.com to receive your refund.

PROGRAM CANCELATION POLICY:
In the event of program cancellation participants are entitled to a makeup class, program credit, or pro-rated refund equal to the class time that was missed. To claim a refund, contact seattle@skatelikeagirl.com.

GENERAL REFUNDS:
Registration for 12&Unders Session Groups are non-refundable. If for any reason a participant cannot make it to a pre-paid session, the missed day(s) can be made up in a drop-in session (drop-in session dates listed above)

DISCIPLINARY EXIT:
We typically do not honor refunds for youth who miss days of skate programming due to a suspension or expulsion from camp due to behavior issues. Refunds in this case will be dealt with via Executive Director on a case by case basis.

REQUESTS TO CHANGE SESSION:
If for any reason you need to change the week(s) of an already purchased session group, this can be done up to 14 days before the start date of both the original and new session at no charge, as long as there are still spaces available at the new session.

SATISFACTION GUARANTEE:
If for any reason you are unsatisfied with your experience, contact us at seattle@skatelikeagirl.com Skate Like a Girl will honor a full refund or program credit for any participant who did not have a positive experience if contacted within 24 hours after the first day of a program.
