YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD

WHAT DOES THE YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD DO?

  • Attend weekly 1 hour meetings
  • Create and complete skateboarding-centric community partnership projects
  • Direct & support creative initiatives like merch, stickers, and skateboard videos
  • Provide youth voice for internal Skate Like a Girl and external skate community decisions
  • Support the next generation of skaters through gear distribution, skate clinics, and events.
JOIN US! Our Youth Advisory Board (YAB) interviews for their year long cohort every fall. To apply you must be 13-22 years old and live in the Seattle, Portland or the Bay area. Skate Like a Girl is committed to building a dynamic team and strongly encourages applications from women, LGBTQAI+, BIPOC, and/or multilingual candidates. Drop into a new community of young people changing the future of skateboarding through community partnership, advocacy, and leadership.

We are currently accepting applications for next year's YAB Cohort and will conduct interviews in Fall 2021!

In July of 2020 our Youth Advisory Board met up with Luca and Massimo from Seattle Skate Features and held a ramp building workshop! We built 2 ramps, one to donate and one to keep, and learned the secret to building a Quarter pipe that will fit in a normal sized vehicle and is NOT TOO STEEP! We are stoked on the final product.

YOUTH EMPLOYMENT SKATEBOARDING

Our YES program has been temporarily suspended due to lack of in person programming. We hope to see you soon!

Skate Like a Girl's Youth Employment Skateboarding (YES) Program is a one-of-a-kind skateboard-centric volunteer program providing a fun and unique leadership opportunity for teens to make a positive impact in their community.

Cohort members earn service hours by teaching skateboarding lessons, running skate events, taking photo/video, as well as various other opportunities. It’s also a perfect opportunity to build your resume, make new friends, and support your local skate scene.

YES members introduce thousands of people to skateboarding and support the mission of Skate Like a Girl, through accessible lessons, camps, and events. Since 2011, more than 200 teens have collectively donated more than 10,000 hours of time through the YES program.

The YES program is open to middle school or high school students, roughly between the ages of 13-18. Members are tasked with volunteering a minimum of 50 hours. These service hours can be used for school, club, or other requirements.
