Supporting Black Communities & Skaters
GET EVERYONE ON BOARD WITH RACIAL JUSTICE
SKATE LIKE A GIRL SEEKS TO CONTINUE TO USE OUR PLATFORM TO BRING IN THE WHOLE COMMUNITY TO TAKE ACTIONS FOR BLACK LIVES. WHY? Our mission is to create a more inclusive community by promoting confidence, leadership, and social justice through skateboarding. In terms of racism, we know that not everyone in our community has the same lived experience, education, and/or awareness. Similar to how we meet people where they are at with skateboarding, we also do so with social justice. We celebrate bringing in new people whether it’s getting on a board or getting on board with racial justice. |
CELEBRATE & ELEVATE
WE PROVIDED OPPORTUNITIES TO ELEVATE AND AMPLIFY BLACK SKATERS AND BLACK-LED ORGANIZATIONS THROUGH OUR CHANNELS AND PROGRAMS. WE WILL ENSURE THAT BLACK PEOPLE ARE REPRESENTED ACROSS SKATE LIKE A GIRL LEADERSHIP, FRONTLINE STAFF AND WITHIN PROGRAMS. WHY? We acknowledge that Black people, especially Black trans people and/or Black women have been underrepresented and marginalized in our communities and in skateboarding. We are committed to leveraging our power to challenge systemic racism inside and outside of our organization. |
LISTEN TO & FOLLOW BLACK-LED CAUSES & ORGANIZATIONS
WE ARE COMMITTED TO FOLLOWING THE LEAD OF BLACK COMMUNITY MEMBERS, ESPECIALLY BLACK TRANS PEOPLE, BLACK WOMEN AND/OR BLACK YOUTH. WE ARE STRONGER WHEN WE BRING COMMUNITIES TOGETHER TO LISTEN, FORM COALITIONS AND BUILD A STRONG SKATE COMMUNITY TOGETHER. WE PROMOTE EQUITY-BASED ACTIONS IN RESPONSE TO SYSTEMIC RACISM, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO MUTUAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS. WHY? We believe the most effective solutions come from those with lived experiences. To be committed to racial equity we must better understand, work with, and elevate Black leaders. |
